Let your visit to Arboretum Baexem become the beginning of a journey through Limburg.
Exatenbosch & Beegderheide
Just beyond Baexem, the quiet woodland of Exatenbosch gradually opens into the heath, sandy paths and small fens of Beegderheide. Together they create a remarkably varied landscape, where sheltered forest paths give way to open skies, water and wide views across the heath. The approximately 12.5 km Beegderheide–Exatenbosch trail connects these different environments in one gentle journey, offering an easy way to experience the natural character of Limburg on foot.
Walk beneath the trees, cross stretches of sand and heath, and pause beside the still water of the fens. The landscape changes quietly along the way, revealing a different atmosphere with every turn. Close to Arboretum Baexem, yet distinctly its own world, Exatenbosch and Beegderheide offer a natural continuation of a day spent among trees — a place to slow down, wander and experience nature beyond the garden.
Cycling Through Limburg
Across the border in Belgian Limburg, cycling becomes a way of experiencing the landscape from an entirely new perspective. The remarkable Cycling Through Limburg routes take you through water, high among the treetops and across the vast heathlands of the Hoge Kempen National Park. At Bokrijk, the path brings cyclists to eye level with the water; in Bosland, a circular route gradually rises 10 metres into the forest canopy; and at the Mechelse Heide, a 300-metre cycling bridge floats above heath and pine forest. Each intervention is carefully woven into its surroundings, turning the journey itself into a destination. Here, landscape, architecture and movement come together — inviting you not simply to cycle through nature, but to experience it differently
